HJC V10

Ever since we saw the pre-production sample, we knew we were in for a treat. The HJC V10 sports a slightly aggressive, retro design but is packed with modern safety features and creature comforts.

The fibreglass composite shell of the V10 makes for a very safe yet delightfully lightweight helmet. The V10 is produced in three shell sizes, so you don’t have to settle for a huge helmet if you’re on the lower end of a shell size bracket. In fact, the V10 is a very sleek and compact lid even though it passes the latest ECE 22.06 safety regulations with flying colours.

ARAI CONCEPT-XE

Like the HJC above, Arai have channelled 80s looks with a nod to the aggressive naked and streetfighter style. The Concept-XE has a clean, minimalist shape with handsome contours in place to hide clever, multi-stage air channels that run both over and around the shell. This stringently tested shell is formed using a smooth PB e-cLc (Arai’s often lauded Peripherally Belted Laminate shell) to give it impressive strength while shedding precious weight at the same time and now ECE 22.06 approved.

You don't have to be a longstanding Arai fan to love this lid, but those who find themselves dipping their toes in the retro full-face market will find it a smooth transition from their more technical race helmets.

BYCITY RIDER

The Bycity Rider 06 helmet is a versatile helmet to suit all types of riders and bikes. The sleek fibreglass shell has a subtle 80s design yet offers the latest in safety and comfort. With the included peak installed, the Rider takes the guise of a full-fledged adventure helmet. Remove the peak and you get a much more aggressive, road-focused look. The choice is yours.

The attractive price truly belies the build quality of this Bycity helmet, and we’ve found ourselves reaching for the Rider helmet time and time again when heading out for a ride.

SHOEI GLAMSTER 06

In our neck of the woods, the Glamster reigns supreme. It is one of our bestselling helmets and consistently gets glowing reviews. However, with more stringent helmet safety regulations coming into play Shoei have updated the Glamster to meet (and exceed) these new standards: in comes the Glamster 06.

The good news is that the new Glamster is visually almost indistinguishable from its predecessor. The shells have grown marginally and they weigh in ever so slightly heavier, but the Glamster 06 remains one of the sleekest and most comfortable helmets on the market.

BILTWELL GRINGO SV

The ever-popular Gringo helmet had recently disappeared from our range, while Biltwell was working diligently behind the scenes to update their helmets to the new, more stringent ECE 22.06 safety regulations.

A few months ago, the Gringo range finally re-surfaced on the European market, with the Gringo SV as a brand new design. The Gringo SV builds on the proven Gringo chassis. Crafted with the same unwavering commitment to excellence as its predecessors, the Gringo SV sticks to the retro looks, but adds modern creature comforts and safety standards. There are vents directly integrated into the helmet shell, giving the helmet a racy silhouette while facilitating internal airflow. Channels within the EPS safety foam effectively dissipate heat and moisture build up, ensuring comfort during rides. Additionally, the sliding mechanisms behind the brow vents enable riders to regulate airflow in colder conditions and are easily operated with a gloved hand.
