STAFF PICKS

We have been selling motorcycle gear for 14 years now, and one of the questions we keep getting asked is "what do you wear on the bike?" We highly rate all of the items we sell, or we wouldn't have selected them in the first place. But when it comes to our personal preferences, we are fortunate enough to be able to cherry-pick exactly what suits our needs and style.

Our next subject is our Head of Operations: Seb. Seb makes sure all of your orders get processed and fulfilled smoothly and keeps all systems at UR well-oiled and ticking over. He also goes through bikes like a kid goes through candy… Have a look at his current line-up (with a V8 as a bonus) and find out what gear he wears on his bikes. After years at Urban Rider and many miles in the saddle, he knows what he’s talking about!

ARAI CONCEPT-XE HELMET

“I love the 80s vibe of this helmet and its super effective vents.”

Arai have channelled 80s looks with a nod to the aggressive naked and streetfighter style. The Concept-XE (previously called Rapide) has a clean, minimalist shape with handsome contours in place to hide clever, multi-stage air channels that run both over and around the shell. This stringently tested shell is formed using a smooth PB e-cLc (Arai’s often lauded Peripherally Belted Laminate shell) to give it impressive strength while shedding precious weight at the same time and now ECE 22.06 approved.

You don't have to be a longstanding Arai fan to love this lid, but those who find themselves dipping their toes in the retro full-face market will find it a smooth transition from their more technical race helmets.

ROLAND SANDS DESIGN CERRITOS RIDERS SHIRT

“Really lightweight and breathable and I can wear this all day long.”

A lightweight, stylish, and protective riding shirt is always welcome among the ranks here at Urban Rider. Inconspicuous in look and feel, the Cerritos Riders Shirt from RSD does a fantastic job of disguising its credentials as a technical bit of kit.

Crafted from an incredibly durable and lightweight nylon/poly hybrid fabric, the Cerritos brings plenty of abrasion resistance to the table, without the bulk and rigidity that you might expect. Armour inserts at the shoulders and elbows provide impact protection, and there’s a pocket for an optional back protector too.

BELSTAFF CROSBY WAX COTTON JACKET

“Very comfortable and super stylish. I use it all year round.”

Belstaff have perfected one of its most popular jackets and it has now reached its final form. Thankfully, the style hasn't changed: the Crosby is still a classic, four-pocket, mid-length jacket that sits in Belstaff's range between the short Brooklands and the longer, belted Trialmaster.

What has changed is the material: the Crosby is now made from an upgraded waxed cotton called TekWax. TekWax is a new innovation that uses high-grade synthetic fibres intertwined with Belstaff’s high-quality cotton to obtain an abrasion-resistant fabric that achieves an A rating in the CE Abrasion & Tear tests. It does this without adding bulk and sacrificing its light weight or the classic Belstaff style. Using synthetic fibres in the weaving process means the fabric does not rely on thickness to provide exceptional abrasion resistance. D3O CE certified Level 1 armour is included in the elbows and shoulders and offers excellent impact absorption and there is of course a pocket for you to add an optional back protector.

JOHN DOE IRONHEAD JEANS

“What I like about these most is how stretchy they are.”

John Doe's Ironhead jeans have a stylish slim fit. The outer layer consists of sturdy 10.5oz denim and is fully backed up by John Doe's own XTM® Fibre liner, made out of abrasion-resistant aramid fibres and inner Coolmax® fibres for temperature regulation on the hotter days. These jeans come with CE Level 1 knee and hip armour and the knee armour pocket is adjustable in height for a perfect fit. The denim has a Teflon® coating to make it water repellent. That's a whole lot of functionality for a stylish looking pair of jeans at an attractive price! When first introduced to us, the opinions in the Urban Rider office were unanimous: the look and fit of the Ironhead is spot on and the stretchy nature of the jeans means you'll be extremely comfortable on the bike, whatever riding position you're in.

JOHN DOE PIONEER MONO JEANS

“On warm days, I swap out my Ironheads for the single layer Pioneers.”

The Pioneer jeans are the slim-fit option in the range, combining all-day comfort with huge levels of protection. CE approved to Level AAA (no mean feat!), thanks to John Doe’s proprietary XTM-Fiber® and stretch denim twill blend, these are as comfy as your Sunday trackies, but will literally save your skin. Integrated hip and height-adjustable knee armour pockets, with Level 1 protectors included are there for added safety.

This Monolayer fabric is water-repellent and breathable, further adding to the versatility of the garment. You’ll never feel the need to take them off - whether you’re cruising around town on a summer’s afternoon, or sitting in a cafe with friends.

KNOX ORSA LEATHER GLOVES

“I got these for their palm sliders and super addictive BOA system.”

Knox's Orsa Glove is a short-length, sport-style glove designed to offer excellent levels of protection to riders throughout the spring summer months. The Orsa has been crafted using predominantly perforated premium Goat leather. This outer skin is not only super supple and comfortable but also brings with it excellent breathability to prevent riders' hands from overheating in hot and sweaty riding conditions.

An outstanding feature of the Orsa is its popular BOA closure system which means Knox are able to delete the typical wrist strap altogether. Made from aircraft-grade stainless steel this closure system will give the rider a more tailored seal when compared to traditional velcro fasteners for a better overall fit and security. The clicking ratchet system is also immensely satisfying to do up.

The Orsa also comes equipped with Knox's simple yet innovative SPS system. SPS stands for Scaphoid Protection System and refers to the sliders located on the palm area of the glove.

JOHN DOE RAMBLER BOOTS

“I wear these almost daily, they have held up very well over the years.”

The Black Rambler Boot by John Doe is a classic moc toe style boot with contrast stitching and a non-slip white sole. This boot has an outer that is made up of premium vintage cowhide leather while incorporating John Doe's XTM-Fiber membrane. This membrane provides the rider with an Aramid, Coolmax and Lycra barrier in order to achieve excellent levels of abrasion resistance and protection while keeping the boot breathable.

The John Doe Rambler offers three-point protection: the ankle, heel and front of the boot are reinforced to protect from impact.
