Top 5 Urban Motorcycle Boots 2022

The variety in motorcycle footwear, this year more than ever, is eye-watering. In recent years we have seen an evolution in this segment: maintain the protection and functionality of motorcycle boots while improving their off-the-bike wearability, both in comfort and in looks. This is especially true for boots in the urban segment, where all-day comfort is often a must and casual looks provide more versatility. Picking the right ones for you can be tricky, so we have narrowed it down to our top 5 for 2022!

TCX Blend 2 Boots

With the original X-Blend being one of the most popular motorcycle boots out there for several years, the new Blend 2 is a fresh update on a modern classic boot. A clean, minimal aesthetic with traditional lace-up fastening and extremely subtle branding are all the hallmarks of a vintage-styled boot that would be a welcome addition to any motorcycling get-up.

Featuring a slight facelift, but with the same styling cues, the Blend 2 is crafted from a premium grain pull-up leather outer, and just like its predecessor will just get better and better with age. Waterproofing comes in the way of a full T-DRY lining, available in a brown or a black version. You can opt for the slightly more expensive, but more breathable Gore-Tex membrane, but then you will be restricted to a black colour boot. The boots feature reinforcements at the toe and heel, plus malleolus armour for protection, and a leather-reinforced shift pad. Rear reflective inserts are a key safety feature for subtle high-visibility.

Next up are the Merlin Bandit. As one of the more affordable boots in our range, with the Bandit you get a lot of boot for the money! These are the tallest and most rugged boots in our selection, Crafted from a durable 2.4mm premium cowhide leather with subtle contrast panels for a classic look. The boots feature a Merlin-exclusive Hipora®Triple Liner system for waterproofing and breathability, while a reinforced footbed alongside D3O®️impact protectors will help prevent injury if you’re involved in a spill.

The Bandit boots pride themselves on their all-day comfort - thanks to a comfort mesh inner lining, a luscious padded tongue, antibacterial sole insert, and a high grip outer sole, these boots will keep you looking and feeling good on long days on and off the bike.

Belstaff Duration Boots

The Belstaff Duration made an appearance in last year’s Top 5 too, and they’re back with good reason! The ever-stylish Duration sports a laceless, slip-on design with a full-length side access zip. It gives the shoes a clean, stylish look while ensuring they are easy to throw on and remove for total practicality.

It's not all about style, though. Belstaff designed the Duration to be put through its paces: Forming the outer layer is a water repellent full-grain pull up leather that measures a 1.8mm to 2.00mm thickness throughout. A leather overlay protects the boot from shifter wear. The Vibram rubber sole is very solid and grippy yet comfortable to walk in. Just like the two boots above, the Duration packs a fully waterproof and breathable membrane to keep your feet dry.

Revit Portland Boots

Not everyone is after a waterproof membrane though, as it will inevitably make the boots a little less comfortable on dry, warm days. The Rev’It Portland is an excellent choice if you are one of those people. With a classic, work-wear aesthetic, the Portland Boots are the perfect compliment to any casual riding outfit - a match made in heaven with riding jeans and a leather jacket. Rev’it have managed to subtly tuck plenty of useful features into an unsuspecting, understated style, and frankly - we love it, especially in the deep olive colour.

A premium, 100% cowhide leather outer is supported by injected ankle cups, and thermoformed heel and toe reinforcement, for high levels of protection and durability on and off the bike. Designed with the urban rider in mind, the leather gear shift pad provides reinforcement where you need it most. The plush OrthoLite® insole provides all-ride-long comfort and will keep your soles soft and cushioned when rambling about town on foot.
Unrivalled sturdy construction in this heritage package is a guaranteed success - Rev’it certainly know what they’re doing in this department. In fact, they released a whole range of amazing boots this year that are definitely worth a look!

John Doe Neo Boots

If you’re looking for some casual, lightweight, breathable yet protective footwear, you should check out the John Doe Neo. The German brand have pulled out all the stops and have created what we think is the ideal summertime riding trainer.

The Neo is constructed from a suede outer with perforated panels across the side of the boot to allow for excellent airflow and breathability. Underneath its informal outer John Doe have hidden a host of protective features making the Neo a very capable motorcycle shoe. The toe, heel and ankle are reinforced to protect you from impact, while the brand's XTM liner runs across the entire trainer to keep your feet safe in a slide. That is because XTM liners consist of a mix of abrasion-resistant aramid fibres mixed with moisture-wicking Coolmax® for comfort.

The Neo trainers are comfortable and lightweight, which makes them a joy to wear while still having peace of mind knowing your feet are protected by CE certified footwear. For anyone after protective footwear for the sunny days, these tick all the boxes.

Honourable mentions in this segment go to the TCX Street 3 and Dartwood sneakers, very similar in style and execution to the John Doe Neo.
