The RST Fusion jacket looks just about as classic as they come - pared back, retro styling that’ll have you fitting in with the rest of the Ton-up boys if you so choose, but with a pretty spectacular secret weapon. The jacket features a state-of-the-art airbag system that inflates upon detection of an incident, providing supreme levels of protection and support that you just don’t get from a standard jacket.

This tech is covertly stashed behind a luxurious soft matte aniline leather that feels gorgeous to the touch. It’s exceedingly comfortable and light - nothing in the look, fit, or feel would give away that you’re packing some serious protection. The four-way stretch panels on the side allow for maximum mobility, as well as facilitating the expansion when the airbag does go off. For such an uncomplicated looking jacket, the tech it carries is mighty impressive. RST have teamed up with In&Motion to give you this smart airbag feature. The brain (hidden within the back protector) will detect an incident in under 25ms, and then deploy the airbag within another 25ms - that’s effectively instantaneous. The airbag covers your key areas - your abdomen, your shoulders (for vital neck support), and down your spine. This will deflate gradually to a capacity of around 80% over a couple of minutes, to provide much needed protection and support whilst you wait for whatever emergency service might be on their way.

Replacement canisters can be purchased separately, and the smart brain will need charging and updating - it uses data from other users to improve the functionality and experiences for users. There is a £12 monthly charge, but for such an intelligent and vitaly protective system, it’s well worth it. The system is transferable to other kit that you may own (such as a race suit), and even has track setting in the app.
