The Merlin Edale is constructed from Cotec, a brand new fabric developed by famous Scottish mill Halley Stevensons. Cotec is a modern interpretation of traditional waxed cotton, with better breathability, easier maintenance and, most importantly, vastly superior abrasion resistance. The fabric is also a lot lighter than comparable traditional waxed cotton, which means the garment is a lot more comfortable to wear.
Merlin have clearly upped the ante when it comes to abrasion resistance, but they have also upgraded the impact protection in their latest collection. The Edale jacket comes equipped with D3O's LP1 armour, which is even more flexible than the original, and a whole lot more breathable thanks to its ventilated geometry. You'll find this CE Level 1 approved armour in the shoulders and elbows, and there is a pocket for an optional back protector. This combination of a strong outer shell and excellent impact protection gives the jacket a CE Level AA rating.
The Edale is a vintage looking three quarter length jacket with a modern spec sheet. It excels in its versatility, and can be the only motorcycle jacket you'll need from here on out. Two zipped chest vents and a full width upper back vent allow for decent airflow in summer, while a removable Outlast thermal lining will keep you warm in winter. A Reissa Active waterproof and breathable membrane sits just underneath the Cotec outer layer and will keep you dry in a downpour.
Merlin have given the Edale classic diamond stitch panels on the elbows, shoulders and across the upper chest. The four flap pocket design is another nod at motorcycle jackets from a bygone era, finished with Merlin-branded snap buttons. We're particularly fond of the pocket on the lower back of the jacket, an excellent place to stash your gloves when getting off the bike. - How would I describe the 0 people found this helpfulHow would I describe the Edale jacket in a word "Brilliant" the fit and features of this jacket are perfect and the fact it's AA rated gives extra piece of mind should you have a tumble it's kept me nice and warm with just a t-shirt on when the temperature has been quite low and best of all it's a British brand with Scottish made fabric
- Merlin Edale Jacket 0 people found this helpfulThis jacket looks great. I sized down as a lot of the reviews suggested that the fit was a little on the larger size. It is a snug fit but the quality is very good, especially considering the price point. Ventilation is good and the removable thermal liner is a great option. The D30 armour is very slim, meaning it can also be worn as a casual jacket too. My only gripe is that it did not come with the back protector. I tried one on which had the protector inserted so naturally assumed it came included. Would recommend this jacket.

Needed to size up but unfortunately there were none left in the size however Urban Rider made it nice and easy to exchange for the Perton which has similar features just a bit shorter.
